Licensed Dyslexia Therapist
Shonna received her B.A. in English and B.A. in Linguistics from The University of Texas at El Paso. She received her M.A. in English from The University of Texas at Austin. Shonna completed her training in Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia at Scottish Rite Dyslexia Center of Austin in 2014. After graduation, she formed a joint practice, Dyslexia & Academic Support Associates, and she offices in north Austin. Shonna sees students in individual and group settings and offers support in dyslexia remediation, as well as ongoing dyslexia support and pre-/early reading skills. Dyslexia screenings are available by appointment, and phone consultations are available anytime. Shonna is happy to answer questions as well as provide resources and referrals for other local professionals. She works with students in public school, private school, and homeschool situations, primarily servicing families in Austin, Round Rock, and Leander ISDs. In addition to her private practice, Shonna is also the Afterschool Program Coordinator for the Dyslexia Center of Austin, a non-profit organization working to provide low-cost intervention services for underserved communities.
Shonna Skarda is licensed by The State of Texas (License No. 2094). She is a Board Member of the International Dyslexia Association-Austin and is a member of the Academic Language Therapy Association and the International Dyslexia Association.
